Why I think McCain won't be President

It's crap like this that get my motor running against Sen. McCain:

“Immigration is probably a more powerful issue here than almost anyplace that I’ve been,” Mr. McCain said after a stop inCedar Falls.  (h/t: Hot Air)

Obviously Mr. McCain hasn't been to Texas yet.  Or California.  Or New Mexico.  Or Arizona?

If immigration is such a problem in Iowa, I might as well turn in my Texas flag for a Mexican flag.

What will he say if/when he comes to Texas?  Of course that statement above is the perfect politicians answer.  He can use it with any audience anywhere he goes.  And illustrates my problem with McCain.

McCain is a politicians politician.  He will say whatever it takes to pander to a particular audience.  Beyond his stance on military issues, he has no core values.

Let me say this now:  I applaud Sen. McCain for his military service and the sacrifices and torture he endured for the sake of that service.  But McCain isn't in the military anymore.  He is a politician running for the Presidency of the United States and I evaluate his political record accordingly.

There are too many issues (campaign finance, gang of 14, amongst others) that set me off from him to begin with.  He just seems too wishy washy on everything else.

Every time I see an article or TV interview with him, all I hear and see is pandering.  I am also not naive enough to think that anyone running for any political office won't pander a bit.

With that said, I'm tired of pandering.

I want a conservative leader.  Put together a platform, a conservative platform, and stick too it.  If you are having to fight your way out of a corner every time you're asked a question, you demonstrate to me your a panderer.  If you've made mistakes in the past, own up to them!  Turn them into a strength and take the issue away from the detractors.  I can understand CYA, hell, we've all done it.  But there comes a time when you need to take responsibility and quit being a politician.

Be a leader.  Don't be scared of being a conservative.  Don't apologize for being a Republican.  Don't be scared to ask or be asked the tough questions and give the people answers they aren't comfortable with.

Until and unless McCain does these things, he will never have my support.  Which unfortunately means McCain will probably never have my support.
