Ron Paul's Dirty Foreign Money

It seems the "only man who can save America" likes nothing more than taking campaign donations from foreigners.

Herr Doktor likes to rail against America's "funny money", yet doesn't mind taking that funny money to fund either his Presidential campaign, or probably funnel some of it to his congressional re-election bid.

A torrent of secret money is flooding into the leading presidential campaigns, with more than $118 million, or one-quarter of the total raised in this cycle, banked without disclosure of who gave the funds or where the donations originated.

The money is coming from hundreds of thousands of donations of $200 or less, which have been widely praised for democratizing the system for funding
White House bids. However, the surge in low-dollar gifts has come at the cost of transparency, since federal law only requires campaigns to itemize donations when a donor gives more than $200.

Rep. Ron Paul ran second in small gifts, raking in more than $17 million.

So over $17M of Herr Doktors Presidential campaign money has come from foreign donors.  This equates to about half the money Herr Doktor has raised.

As the article states, it seems all the presidential candidates do this, some obviously more than others.

What is really striking is this:

However, one area of concern with the flood of donations, particularly those made online, is that foreigners could be weighing in illegally in an American election. Mr. Obama's Web site allows donors to choose an address in one of 227 possible countries or territories, including Iran, Iraq, Zimbabwe, and Yemen.

Mr. Paul's site is even more embracing, permitting addresses in Syria and the "Occupied Palestinian Territories."

Isn't it striking that Herr Doktor would even accept donations from SYRIA or "Occupied Palestinian Territories"?  Yet we are to believe there is not even the least shred of anti-Israel sentiment from the man?  Why in the world would Palestinians even donate to Herr Doktor?  Is it just because he says we shouldn't give Israel so much foreign aid?  But then how many billions in foreign aid has the US given the PA?  Isn't Herr Doktor against ALL foreign aid?  Oh, and what about foreigners owning so much of America's debt?  You Paulbots LOVE to make that point.  But I guess as long as they own half of Herr Doktors campaign it's OK?

I also thought one of Herr Doktors selling points is that he is unbeholden to special/foreign interests?  With about half of his campaign donations coming from foreign sources, we can now sink that particular talking point now can't we...

(Shhhhh.  No anti-semitism to see here folks.  Move along.)

Taking money from Palestinian terrorists?  Oh wait, they aren't terrorists, they're refugees right Paulbots?  So what does that make Syria?

More hypocrisy and more Washington insider behavior from Herr Doktor. None of this matters though.  It's about the message, not the man right?  So how exactly is this different than having lobbyists give you money?

Seems pretty much the same thing to me.
