Obama's Townhall Moment

President Obama was called a liar by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson last night in his health care speech before Congress.  A fountain of outrageous outrage has erupted on the Left about how this was improper, the wrong venue, etc.  Personally, when the POTUS uses this same speech to let the world know he will "call out" those who "misrepresent and spread falsehoods" about the Democrats health care proposals, color me unimpressed with Obama being given a dose of his own medicine by a Congressman who couldn't take any more of the drivel spewing from Obama's pie-hole.

I also don't buy the meme about how this is a continued "lowering of the discourse" and other such inane pap.  Lowering of the Discourse?  Really?  Have these people seen any of the rhetoric from Democrats and the Left over the past month?

Harry Reid (D-NV) calling government run health care opponents "evil-mongers".

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) likening government run health care opponents to Nazis.

Baron Hill (D-IN) calling government run health care opponents "political terrorists.  Not once, but at least twice.

Charlie Rangel (D-NY) calls government run health care opponents "racists".

Senators Schumer, Durbin and Leahy (Democrats all) call government run health care opponents "right-wing extremists".

Do some Googling and you'll find legions more example of the Democrats ideas of "discourse".

President Obama finally had a taste of what congressional Democrats (and some Republicans) have been receiving over the past month.  Obama has been able to surround himself with friendly crowds at the "townhalls" he's had over the past month.  Townhalls filled with planted questions and plenty of union reps, btw.  But Obama hasn't fielded any real, honest to goodness questions from citizens, nor has he had to face any of the anger about his and his administrations overreach on numerous issues.  He got a small taste last night.

All of the calls from the Left about how Rep. Wilson comments were disrespectful, etc. are bullshinola.  If the Left expects "civil discourse" try being civil yourself.  If the president doesn't want to be called a liar, then stop lying.

UPDATE:  I just read a great, quick overview of the presidents speech.  An excerpt:

We're expected to believe a Democrat-controlled Congress, with deep divisions in its ranks, will put together a bill that will keep everything the same for those who have health insurance through their jobs, Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA; mandate coverage of pre-existing conditions; ban caps on coverage; mandate coverage of routine checkups and preventive care, like mammograms and colonoscopies; offer health insurance to 30 million uninsured; provide tax credits for small businesses; painlessly mandate coverage for the young healthy uninsured; provide hardship waivers; provide choice and competition; keep insurance companies honest; avoid taxpayer subsidies for public option plans; keep out illegal immigrants; not pay for abortions; and not deny care to the elderly because of cost-benefit analyses, all while not adding one dime to our deficits – either now or in the future.

Read that again and tell me exactly how Congressman Wilson wasn't right?  What the Congressman should have said was, "Don't p)$$ down my back and tell me it's raining!"
