Don't have any.
If there is a meeting, change the name.
Call them "roundtables". If you have a "roundtable", stack the deck with health care "supporters" (read OfA) and make the discussion by "invitation only". If that doesn't work, then have a meeting but send out the general notification at the last minute, knowing fewer people will show up. Also, be sure to
send out staffers to answer questions by not answering questions. (Interesting note on the 'staffer' issue from Ed Morrissey:
No one elected this staffer. They elected the Senator and the Senator has a responsibility, a duty, to answer to his constituents)
This is an interesting video from the Sherrod event depicting the cowardly nature and pure bullshinola from some Organizing for America 'volunteers'. They are deliberately evasive. When pressed, they refuse to answer questions. When one of their members answers questions, then they demand to know the affiliation of the questioner. I don't know if the girl's story about her friend with skin cancer is true (and to her credit, she was open and honest and cheerful in her willingness to answer questions), but color me skeptical.
BOTH of this 'victims' parents make six figures, yet can't seem to find the money to pay
FOR THEIR OWN DAUGHTERS CANCER TREATMENT?!
Really? Ummm...bull.
Democrats are employing this tactic in Ohio,
New Hampshire, and
Colorado. It backfired in Colorado however. When Colorado constituents found out their representative wasn't going to have a meeting, they decided to schedule one themselves, and invite the in absentia congresswoman. Guess what happened within hours? The Colorado Rep suddenly released a schedule of townhalls!
Huzzah!!
I have e-mailed my own representative, Ciro Rodriguez (D) to ask about any townhalls he may have. He hasn't had any yet, though he did have a kind of impromptu meeting in front of a Starbucks last week. He also had a tele-conference on VA health issues on July 31. He has yet to schedule any full scale constituent meetings however. There is nothing on his website. There is a rumor of a meeting scheduled for August 29th, but there is no mention of it on his website. There is also rumor the meeting, if it was scheduled, may be cancelled. I am awaiting a response.
It would seem this is a coordinated effort, at least by some, to avoid dealing with their constituents and hence, the problem. I can only hope the electorate and the opponents of these politicians remember this treatment when the next election cycle rolls around.
