Unfortunately, this is not a joke:
In a new overture to Iran, the Obama administration has authorized U.S. embassies around the world to invite Iranian officials to Independence Day parties they host on or around July 4th.
A State Department cable sent to all U.S. embassies and consulates late last week said that U.S. diplomats could ask their Iranian counterparts to attend the festivities, which generally feature speeches about American values, fireworks, hot dogs and hamburgers.
If only we had sent a hamburger to Imadinnerjacket, we could have avoided all of this silly "Great Satan" talk. Smart diplomacy indeed!
In other vexing news from the Middle East the US refuses to sell some attack helicopters to our ally, Israel. Obama has rightly discovered that giving the evil Juice more military firepower would just be unfair or something. There is a concern you see. This move is to reduce civilian casualties in Gaza (yes, I'm serious). Our arab friends in Egypt though, they can have twelve. Because nothing says arab friendship like suicide bombings, car bombings, bus bombings, etc. (or flying planes into skyscrapers and murdering innocents...)
(Of course I'm being glib, mostly, but is there anyone else who feels this administration would handle things better on the foreign policy front if they just used a Magic 8 Ball?)
