President Obama is either lying or just absurdly misinformed.
Obama states that his oppostition (Republicans) have done nothing but complain and offer nothing as an alternative to his plan. As I said, he is either lying or is as stupid as we thought he would be.
All you have to do is google
Republican alternative stimulus proposal. You will find there have been at least two seperate Republican proposals. Additionally, a Democrat offers
his own alternative plan.
This Democrat plan only spends $170 billion, not the almost $900 billion of the current Democrat plan. This alternative has been out there for
days, why no mention of it from the president? Why no mention of this and the other alternatives from the Press?
As many have said, our country looks to the President for leadership, not fearmongering. President Obama is pushing the deal he has for a reason. Obama is trying to salvage a victory and doesn't give a wit about the cost or consequences. Of course he is going to demogogue the issue and say there are no alternatives from Republicans, to do otherwise undermines his own rhetoric about Republican obstructionism. Any informed or rational person would do a bit of research and see that the President is, at best, being misleading. How can the Republicans be perceived as obstructionist after all if they are offering alternatives? Another thing missing from the 'debate' is the purposeful exclusion of Republicans in the House by Nancy Pelosi. Perhaps the Democrats themselves are the instigators of said Republican 'obstructionism' by excluding Republicans from the very beginning?
Obama is also laying on the "inherited" rhetoric pretty thick. Obama says he "inherited this deficit" from the very Republicans who are now complaining about his massive spending. As Ed Morrissey at Hot Air points points out:
Obama tried a couple of times to lay the deficit off on the Republicans, but more than half of that deficit came from the bailouts of last year, which the Democrats pushed through Congress. Republicans balked at the massive TARP program, which Obama criticized in his press conference last night. The Bush administration didn’t partner with Republican leadership to get that passed; they had to get the Democrats to pass it, and Democrats have controlled Congress for the last two years. And the economic crisis came from the collapse of the housing market bubble created by the kind of intervention Obama proposes.
Typical lies and double speak from a man who promised to change Washington with a new direction away from "the same old politics of the past."
"Change" indeed.
