"Just how far back into the Stone Age..."

"If you're keeping score, this means we can't use heating oil or coal to produce energy to heat and/or light our homes. They killed nuclear power. Now they want to ban all hydro-electric facilities." -Newsbusters

Want more enviro-insanity?  Read futher:

International Rivers Network executive director Patrick McCully today told Brisbane's Riversymposium rotting vegetation and fish found in dams produced surprising amounts of methane - 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide.

"Often it's accepted that hydropower is a climate friendly technology but in fact probably all reservoirs around the world emit greenhouse gases and some of them, especially some of the ones in the tropics, emit very high quantities of greenhouse gases even comparable to, in some cases even much worse than, fossil fuels like coal and gas," Mr McCully said.

And Mr. Sheppard ends with this:

As a sidebar, I've been told by several people in the electricity business that many states such as California, Oregon, and Washington could completely power their populations with hydro-electric facilities thereby getting off the nation's power grid.

Unfortunately, groups like IRN have done a great job preventing the construction of dams throughout these states thereby guaranteeing huge numbers of Americans have to rely on fossil fuels to heat and power their homes.

How's that for an inconvenience?

'Health Miles' for free fruit and veggies?

Of course Britains 'universal health care' won't care for those with 'unhealthy lifestyles'.

And whose determines what a healthy lifestyle is?  You guessed it, the government.

From Thisislondon:

In a bid to ease spiralling levels of obesity and other health concerns, a Tory panel said certain treatments should be denied to patients who refuse to co-operate with health professionals and live healthier lifestyles.

And those who do manage to improve their general health by losing weight and quitting smoking, for example, would receive "Health Miles" cards.

Points earned could then be used to pay for health-related products such as gym membership and fresh vegetables.

And this gem:

"It is inconsistent with the concept of the responsible citizen to imagine that it is realistic for citizens, having paid their taxes, to expect that the state will underwrite the health implications of any lifestyle decision they choose to make," the report states.

My question is this:  If the state isn't going to pay for the health care of those who aren't being 'responsible citizens', will they NOT take the health care taxes from them?

I think you know the answer to that.

Mexican President confuses US with Mexico - Video

This must be a mistake.  Otherwise this guy really deserves the "Moron of the Day Award".

The award is deserved anyway.  How this guy speaks about another nation taking care of his citizens and the politicians in Mexico give him a standing 'O' - amazing!

Of course this snippet from Hot Air says it better than I:

Sanctuary cities, college tuition breaks for illegals, fawning press coverage, the support of the president of the United States and the majority party in Congress, and this jack--- has the titanium balls to whine about “persecution.” Here’s what persecution looks like. Utter, shameless, repulsive hypocrisy.

Follow the links in that exceprt.  They are awesome!

Global Warming 'offsets' your bank account

The one thing true about global warming hysteria.  Just ask the Brits.  They are now feelings the effects in their wallets.

Perhaps that's the ultimate goal of 'offsets'? - increase in sea level rise 'offset' by a corresponding decrease in the size of your bank account.

From Newsbusters:

hysteria-raise-taxes

Nearly two-thirds of the public believe ministers are using environmental fears as an excuse to raise tax revenue
, according to a poll.

And research suggests their cynicism is justified - with green taxes raking in £10 billion more for the Treasury than it would cost to offset the entire UK's carbon footprint.

Can you imagine Katie, Charlie, or Brian doing such a report? Regardless, the article continued:

A survey carried out by YouGov for the TPA found that only a fifth of people thought politicians were genuinely trying to change behaviours using the tax system. In contrast, 63% believed they were using the issue as an excuse to pull in more cash.

Nearly four-fifths voiced opposition to the so-called "pay as you throw" schemes floated by the Government to encourage recycling - despite previous surveys indicating a majority backed the idea.

Furthermore, could you imagine any major American press outlet reporting that the public had actually been overtaxed:

Using previous international research into climate change, the report estimated that covering the social cost of carbon emissions would have cost £11.7 billion in 2005.

But receipts from green taxes such as fuel duty, road tax and the Climate Change Levy totalled £21.9 billion. On average every household in the UK paid £400 more in levies than it cost to cover their own footprint, the TPA claimed.

Ron Paul Polling Update

Since it's Labor Day, I couldn't find many updates for polling for the past week.  So here's what I could find on the Ron Paul front:

Rasmussen:  Not mentioned.  None of the second tier are (excpet Huckabee and he's at 6%)  Best case for Paul in this scenario:  all the other second tier candidates are at 0% and Paul gets all 5% below Huckabee.

Diageo/The Hotline:  Ron Paul at 2%
http://www.diageohotlinepoll.com/07_Aug_Pressrelease.pdf

American Research Group - Iowa:  Ron Paul at 1%
http://americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/iarep8-709.html

American Research Group - New Hampshire:  Ron Paul  at 3% (up 2 points from July)
http://americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/nhrep8-709.html

American Research Group - South Carolina:  Ron Paul at 2% (down 1 point)
http://americanresearchgroup.com/pres08/screp8-707.html

The American Research Group numbers are for the onth of August.

Poll average from these samples:  2.6% (and that's using the improbable 5% best case from Rasmussen above).  Without the 5% bump, his average is an even 2% for these samples.

Those are the most updated polls I could find.

The Ron Paul 'Revolution' keeps inching it's way towards not amounting to much.

"Wherever there is a Mexican, that is Mexico"

Mexico's Calderon has a problem with the US enforcing it's border laws.

From Hot Air:

Hard to choose a money quote here (aside from the one in the headline, I mean). I was leaning towards this

The Mexican government, he said, would continue to “energetically protest unilateral actions” of the U.S. Congress on the immigration front that he said “exacerbate the persecution of undocumented Mexicans in the U.S.”

– just because the idea that America’s enforcement of its own laws shouldn’t be a wholly internal issue makes me smile.

Maybe it's just becasue he realizes the billions of dollars he'll lose if/when we do actually begin enforcing our borders?

Ron Paulbots in action - Video

I watch this vid and can't help but wonder what is going to happen to these folks frame of mind when Mr. Paul doesn't get the nomination...

I also couldn't help but chuckle at the cult like feel when Mr. Paul was driving by and his Paulbots ran up to touch him.  Creepy.

(H/T: Deschamps)

PS - Good post on this one Mike.
