New Feature - Horoscopes!

Not much into astrology; hope I didn't mess this up too bad.  Take a look:

Aries March 21 - April 19

Your boss' reputation as a savvy manager  and cruel sense of humor will convince everyone who reads his new business how-to book that giving you a perfunctory ball-punch is how men greet one another in the business world.

Taurus April 20 - May 20

In relatively good news, your life's usual boredom, self doubt, loneliness, inner pain, and frustration will be cut by almost three-sevenths this week.

Gemini May 21 - June 21

You'll be unsettled this week when the Emirate of Dubai builds an exact 88-story aluminum-and-glass replica of your head, and deeply troubled when you realize it's paired with an exact 68-story steel-and-glass replica of the gun in your desk drawer.

Cancer June 22 - July 22

It will take six men to get the look off the camel's face following your birthday party, although no one's sure why since the camel wasn't at the party, doesn't have an unusual look on its face, and the six men aren't known to work with camels.

Leo July 23 - August 22

Please stop insisting you have nothing left to live for. The phrase you're looking for is "never had a reason to live."

Virgo August 23 - September 22

You'll die from an accidental overdose of hormones that causes every muscle in your body to flex uncontrollably, become rigid, and eventually rupture after the 911 operator repeatedly hangs up on you for saying you're as "hard and straight as a bar of iron and ready to pop at any second."

Libra September 23 - October 23

The other residents of Texas could forgive your "messing with" habit, but not combined with your total silence on the issue of which vehicles you'd prefer to push rather than driving other vehicles.

Scorpio October 24 - November 21

Your future as a songwriter ends almost before it begins when you find that someone has already compared the depth, power, and beauty of their love to an ocean.

Sagittarius November 22 - December 21

You've heard a lot of people say that having kids isn't easy, but as far as you can tell, the man's dingle just goes into the lady's hoo-hah.

Capricorn December 22 - January 19

Although they do indeed say "if something's too good to be true, it probably is," the reverse is not automatically the case. Stop telling people Remington Steele was a real guy.

Aquarius January 20 - February 18

You'll be forced to withdraw your workplace sexual harassment lawsuit against your employer, Carnivore Stables LLC, when your boss demonstrates the fully functional life-sized pony constructed from USDA Grade-A bologna that he was asking you to test-ride.

Pisces February 19 - March 20

Your week will be indistinguishable from last week in every detail but one, but that's just a minor color and texture change you probably won't even notice.

A Refutation of Alarmism on Earth Day

Since it's Earth Day (how long before they call it Gaia's Holiday or some such nonsense) there are the myriad of GW, pro-environmentalism, and America's the problem stuff on the net and TV today.

As a matter of fact, I just went through a little 'photo essay' on MSN.com.  It is a short slide show featuring 16 photos of the world's endangered destinations.  Each photo is accompanied by a small descriptive caption.

After going through the show, I noticed some interesting things.  I decided to take a sample of the photo's and add my own bit of analysis to them from the standpoint of common sense.

Photo #1:  The Everglades, Florida.
Mangrove trees silhouetted at sunset, Everglades National Park, Fla. (© James P Blair/National Geographic/Getty Images)
Original caption:  "Perhaps no region of the country is as vulnerable to climate change as Florida. Even a slight increase in temperature and water level could prove devastating to popular destinations like the Everglades, Miami Beach and the Keys."

Common Sense:  Aren't the everglades already underwater?  I've seen those guys on their air boats and such.  I've watched numerous shows on Animal Planet about how the everglades needs to be underwater and how it is threatened by drought!  Aren't those mangrove trees?  Aren't they supposed to be underwater?  Barring Al Gore, the IPCC has even stated the worst we could get is a seventeen inch rise in sea levels over 100 years.  Call me crazy, but what's a foot and a half?

Photo #2:  Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska
Sign indicates where Exit Glacier used to reach to in 1978, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska (© Ashley Cooper/Picimpact/Corbis)
Original caption:  "A sign in Kenai Fjords National Park indicates where the Exit Glacier reached in 1978; about a half-mile away from where it has receded to today. A jaw-dropping spectacle for the thousands of tourists who flock to Alaska each year, many Alaska glaciers are rapidly receding."

Common Sense:  Yes, there are glaciers receding.  But no mention of the additional expansion of glaciers in Antarctica.  Notice anything peculiar about this photo?  Take a close look.  Notice all that lush green vegetation in place of where the glacier was 29 years ago?  Just think of all the CO2 scrubbing the Earth would be robbed of if all the vegetation now exposed, were still under feet of ice!  Do we want more ice, or do we want less CO2?  Hmmm?  Also, this glacier has only receded a half-mile since '78.  I read some nonsense about how 23,000 fee

Photo #3:  Dalian, China
People on crowded beach try to beat heat wave in August 2006, Dalian, China (© Liu Bingsheng/ChinaFotoPress/Getty Images)
Original Caption:  "Fast-growing China, shown here during a prolonged heat wave last year, is opening about one coal plant every day this year. Along with the U.S., China is one of the world's leading contributors to the greenhouse gases believed to be largely responsible for the increase in the Earth's temperature." - (emphasis mine)

Common Sense:  This is the only place I have seen anyone admit China being one of the leading contributors to GW.  I couldn't believe it when I read it.  No mention of how China, along with India, are exempt from the lefts beloved Kyoto Protocol.  China opening one coal plant a year (or more) has never been an issue for the alarmists.  The need for more fuel refining capacity in the US (since a new refinery hasn't been opened in this country for over 30 years) however, is enough to cause calls of universal armageddon from the enviro-wackos.  One must have one's priorities, right Sheryl Crow?

Photo #4:  Manhattan, New York City
Southern tip of Manhattan, surrounded by water (© David Jay Zimmerman/Corbis)
Original Caption:  "With high concentrations of population living just above sea level, New York and Los Angeles were listed in a recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as being at risk of potentially catastrophic "megafloods" resulting from rising oceans and stronger storms in the next century."

Common Sense:  In this day and age, what is the greater threat to New York City:  global warming or Islamonazis with a nuke?  'Nuff said.

Photo #5:  Halong Bay, Vietnam
Houseboats in Halong Bay, Vietnam (© Steven Vidler/Eurasia Press/Corbis)
Original Caption:  "With a high percentage of its population living along the coast, Vietnam faces considerable risk from the effects of global warming. Experts worry that developing nations may not have the resources available to thwart the dangers of climate change as readily as wealthier nations."

Common Sense:  Apparently, we're to late to help these poor souls!  Another alarmist photo.  Some schlub sees this and says, "Those poor people!  See sea levels are already rising!  Do something!"  What you won't see or read is that this is how these people live.  They have adjusted their lifestyle to adapt to their surroundings as humans have since the beginning of time.  These people live as they want to.  It's probably how they make their living.

Last but not least:  The Obligatory Polar Bear Apocalypse Pic!
Polar bear emerging from water, Northwest Territories, Canada (© Dan Guravich/Corbis)
Original CaptionNorthwest Territories, Canada: "Polar bears have become one of the more obvious victims of the impact of global warming. With about 23,000 square miles of Arctic sea ice melting every year, the bears' hunting grounds are shrinking rapidly. Some scientists predict polar bears will be extinct in the next century. " - (emphasis mine)

Common Sense:  See how the photo is supposed to make you believe this bear is running through water?  The implication being the ice is melting.  Also, no consensus?  I though when it came to anything having to do with GW there was a worldwide consensus?  These MSN caption writers are really off the ball.  Also, since he's wet, he doesn't look as big.  Due to GW you see his habitat is being destroyed so he can't eat!  The horror!!!

Folks, the alarmism is just that.  You'll constantly hear what the MSM and those with an agenda want you to hear.  They do this to frighten you.  They want you frightened so then you'll turn to them with your hands out and say "Help Us"

Don't be fooled by the movies.  Try to look beyond a simple photograph.  What is it that the photographer or publisher is really trying to say?  These days, there is little want to inform from the MSM.  They want you scared.  They also want your money.

Earth Day
MSM (Corporate) Bias? - Google uses image of melting iceberg (glacier) on Earth Day
What do you think?  Any influence peddling here?

Don't just listen to "consensus".  Ask "What consensus?"  Al Gore and the UN can't even agree on how high the sea levels will rise over the next century.  Gore says 20 FEET!  The UN say, maybe 17 INCHES!

If you want to conserve or change your lifestyle, that's great, but be sure your doing it for the right reasons.  I do certain things in and around my home and when I drive, but it's not because the Goreacle said do it.  I'm just trying to save money!  But if i want to run my AC at 68 degrees every now and again, I should have the right to do so.

Ultimately folks, that's what it comes down to, your rights.  Are you going to live your life the way you wish or are you going to have the government mandate how much toilet paper you can use?

Liberty is one of our most precious gifts my friends.  Don't surrender it lightly!

If you enjoyed this little essay, please pass it on to your friends and family and others.

Assinine GW Suggestion of the Day

What will those crazy Euro-socialists think of next?

Stop coming to work and save the planet

By Richard Gray, Science Correspondent, Sunday Telegraph
Last Updated: 12:30am BST 22/04/2007

For most of us facing gridlocked roads and packed trains, the Monday morning commute is a more pressing concern than climate change.

But there may be a single solution to both, according to business leaders.

The Institute of Directors is calling for flexible hours and more home working to help tackle global warming.

Miles Templeman, the institute's director-general, said offering employees greater flexibility would ease pressure on transport networks and cut rush-hour power demand - thereby reducing emissions. Mr Templeman urged ministers not to rush into policies that risked harming the economy, such as caps on emissions and carbon taxes.

Speaking ahead of the institute's annual convention later this week, he criticised the Government over its "ideological" approach to climate change.

"The politicians are still hooked up on this global leadership on climate change, which has become a political bandwagon," he said. "You can see all the politicians trying to out-green each other. There is a danger they will damage competitiveness and companies will move jobs to other countries."

His comments come weeks after Chris Gibson Smith, the chairman of the London Stock Exchange, said the Government's policies on climate change risked damaging British business.

He said Britain could not tackle climate change on its own and carbon emission penalties put the country's competitive edge at risk.

A spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: "The UK environmental industry is already a success story and worth some £25 billion annually.

"Boosting energy efficiency makes good financial sense for business and also helps cut carbon emissions."

What "strict interpretation of Islam" really means

Islamofascists are so funny; posted from LGF

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'mixed vegetables':

In Baqouba, Iraq, Al Qaeda has warned street vendors of the dangers of improper vegetable mixing.

American commanders cite al-Qaida’s severe brand of Islam, which is so extreme that in Baqouba, al-Qaida has warned street vendors not to place tomatoes beside cucumbers because the vegetables are different genders, Col. David Sutherland said.

And in Sudan, a man married a goat, and it didn’t turn out too baaaadly: Sudan man forced to ‘marry’ goat.

A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his “wife”, after he was caught having sex with the animal.

The goat’s owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders. They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

“We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together,” Mr Alifi said.

Straight Talk on 'Gun Control' - Video

I was always taught proper gun control ensured you hit what you were aiming at, but I digress.

Great spot on the idiocy of the leftists ideas on 'gun control':

In Honor of Earth Day - Video

I offer up the stupidity of the "we must do something" crowd, and some common sense about the true nature of the movement:

Content Warning:

These guys are pretty liberal in their overall politics, but they make sense on a lot of issues.

Interesting note:  I was going to put up video from these two about recycling and more enviro-wacko stuff, like I did a few months back.  But the vids have been removed from both Google Video and You Tube.

So much for the free exchange of ideas.

Military Quote of the Day

Hey Harry Reid, this one's for you:

You cannot expect him to be brave if you abuse and cower him.
You cannot expect him to be strong if you break him.
You cannot expect him to fight and die for our cause if your soldier has not been treated with the respect and dignity which fosters unit esprit and personal pride.

- Gen. Delos C. Ramos

Disgusting: Kos Kids Sympathize with V Tech Killer

A Daily Kos diarist overlays a picture of mass murderer Seung Hui Cho on the Virginia Tech memorial services, for one of the sickest exercises in moral equivalence you’re ever likely to read: Daily Kos: Seung-Hui Cho. I Mourn Your Life and Loss.

Seung-Hui Cho, as he called himself, was a young man locked in Hades for decades. His death began long before the day of infamy. He longed for comfort and company. All he received was chiding. Even in death, Seung-Hui Cho is scorned. I am forlorn.
