Here is a great show of support.
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/usworld/news-article.aspx?storyid=74255Let me see if I understand his reasoning: Refusing to say the Pledge of Allegiance allows him to both protest the war in Iraq and support the troops. Wearing his National Defense Service Medal Ribbon shows he supports the troops, honest. All is right with the world.
I was unaware that the war and the troops were mutually exclusive. Why can't these people stand up for what they believe?
You can disagree with policy; you can disagree with war, but you cannot seperate the soldiers from the war! They are engaged in the mission enforcing US policy. Good or bad, that's what we do. If you don't support the effort, you can't support the mechanism of that effort. It's that simple.
That's like saying you won't water your yard because the chlorine in the water will kill it. Well if you don't water it, it's gonna die anyway. (I know that's a poor analogy, but it's the best I could come up with at the moment.) How about this: It's like lopping off your right hand for the sake of the left.
As for wearing his ribbon. This is just a tactic to silence critics. "See, I was in the military. I support the troops. You can't crticize me, because I was in the military." It's false gravitas.
I would respect these type of people, I swear, if they would just have some integrity. I wish lefty libs would just be honest about their idealogy.
Of course in this instance they can't. They know that the majority of the American people don't want us to lose in Iraq. If they were honest about their real feelings, they would be drummed out of power.
So they continue to have their cake and eat it too and the MSM gives them a pass.
