This is it. I've had it! I've really, really had it!
This nation has really begun it's inevitable slide into the morass of moral and military vacuousness!
I remember when I was a kid. Back in the early eighties, my Dad told me about Vietnam and the issues which arose as a result of the defeat we should have never experienced, yet did.
It seemed at the time that America was beginning to understand what it had done to itself as a result of the social policies and politics of that era. Reagan became President and America renewed it's strength. The military regained it's honor throughout the eighties and into the early nineties.
Now, more than five years after we were attacked and the islamofascists began their quest for domination with alacrity, we get this load of defeat-o-speak, the ISG!
As a member of the AF currently on active duty, my first reaction was we have men and women fighting and dying in Iraq and instead of letting us kill the SOB's responsible, our governments best solution is to initiate a study group?! I can hear it from the soldiers now: "Our new SECDEF has said we're losing, this ISG says we're losing, what am I still doing here? Send me home."
The taking of support from the military effort in Iraq is tantamount to what happened after Vietnam. A few years ago we heard stories of people giving up 1st class airline seats to returning soldiers; now the public seems like it could care less.
The worst thing is that this seems to be exactly what the government wants. Foment dissatisfaction. Delude the morale of the fighters. Begin the domino effect of defeat, now more fervently than ever.
What kills me is that the American people don't understand what this is going to cost us in the long run.
I hate to say this, but I don't know if I'll be able to continue my service if my own government isn't going to support the mission I've sworn to. I'll retire. I don't know if I could sacrifice my personal honor continuing to work for politicians who continually refuse to learn the lessons of history and allow us to be defeated by a less than honorable enemy.
If I take that road, I only wish that the politicians in power would do the same.
